a place for fika: bUTIKEN

Just downstairs from Hotel Diplomat lies Butiken, a local deli offering strong espressos (also known as fika in Swedish), local produce and traditional Swedish delicacies. Open from early morning to evening, enjoy your fika out on the terrace, taking in the pristine views of the Nordic Museum and exquisite water views out to the neighbouring islands.
The mornings spent here feel somewhat like a distant european dream, however, I still remember the warmth of the sun and the local swedes elegantly strolling past whilst I was reading the morning paper, a moment to cherish until I next return.

A gallery: Fotografiska

Head to Fotografiska for a taste of whats contemporary in photography- the design and layout of the gallery is faultless and the exhibitions are all absorbing. Once you have viewed the exhibitions, collect a few coffee table books from the gallery boutique downstairs and head up to the top floor- a cafe with sweeping views of the lake and Stockholm city to enjoy your afternoon fika.

A market: Östermalm Saluhall

Prepare yourself to stroll into market heaven. Think punnets full of cloudberries, fresh gravlax salmon, venison meatballs, and some of the best toast skagen in Stockholm. This market is on par with the Grande Epicerie in Paris, meaning it is a regular for many locals, a true sign of its authenticity and an even better reason to ride your bicycle there every other day of the week. You’ll soon become just as obsessed as I am.

a place to eat: Gro restaurant

A healthy Swedish eatery like no other. Gro was established in 2013 by Head Chefs Henrik Norén and Magnus Villnow. The restaurant showcases local produce where vegetables reign, with a small menu and only 20 seats in the house, the menu is refreshed daily dependent upon whats in season, making it a true market to plate experience. I recommend the kale salad sautéed with parsnip and cranberry.

a spa: gRAND hôtel, Stockholm

A truly luxurious experience that made my world slow down for the whole 90 minutes. I opted for the Nordic Beauty treatment, which includes an organic Scandinavian cranberry scrub, a steam bath in the privacy of a treatment room, followed by an aroma massage and a nourishing face treatment using all organic products. The ultimate all in one treatment, the steam bath allows your muscles to soften, while the cranberry scrub sloths away dead skin cells, allowing your massage to give ultimate moisturise and relaxation- a true all-in-one treatment.

Following my treatment the therapist guided me to the juice bar, where I found my complimentary green smoothie.  An indulgent self-care experience that cannot be missed in Stockholm.
